Students from Hillside Intermediate School Spend Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the Avalon at Bridgewater

Residents at the Avalon at Bridgewater enjoyed an eventful Martin Luther King Jr. Day with students from Hillside Intermediate School.  The volunteers came to the Avalon at Bridgewater to spend time with the residents and to create colorful and inspirational artwork that expressed the students’ and residents’ feelings.

This intergenerational program was taped for NJEA classroom close up, an Emmy winning show that airs on NJTV (formally NJN). Both residents and students were interviewed on how educational and beneficial intergenerational programs can be.

The residents had a wonderful afternoon and hope that the students will come again in the future. The artists’ work is now on display at the Avalon at Bridgewater for all to enjoy.  NJEA classroom close up featuring the Avalon and Hillside school will air Sundays, April 8th-May 6th at 12:30 and 7:30 on NJTV.

Bridgeway Senior Healthcare Holds First Annual Live Nativity

On December 17th, Bridgeway Senior Healthcare held the first annual Live Nativity at their Hillsborough Campus on Amwell Road.  The nearly completed Senior Living Campus was buzzing as residents, staff and visitors embraced the holiday spirit.  The event featured a custom made inn and manger with volunteers playing the parts of Mary, Joseph, and shepherds.  There were several live animals including a goat, sheep, and donkeys that were visiting from Norz Hill Farm and Market.  Spectators were serenaded by Hillsborough’s Mary Mother of God choir who sang carols. Throughout the event, donations were collected to benefit Hillsborough’s  Volunteer Fire Department.  Volunteers from the department were present - and Santa made an appearance as well to the delight of the many children in attendance.  The residents and staff at Bridgeway and the Avalon alike had a great time and look forward to hosting the event again next Holiday Season.
